Oprah Winfrey talks about her lifelong weight loss struggle

Oprah Winfrey spoke about her life long struggle with weight and all the stigma she went through over the years recently. The 68-year-old bared everything in her Oprah Daily panel titled “The Life You Want Class: The State of Weight.

The panel also featured experts, Dr Fatima Cody Stanford and Dr Melanie Jay who are bother experts in weight and health while obesity psychologist Dr Rachel Goldman and CEO of WeightWatchers Sima Sistani also joined her.

“You all know I’ve been on this journey for most of my life. My highest weight was 237lbs. I don’t know if there is another public person whose weight struggle has been exploited as much as mine over the years.”

The super celebrity talk show host said that her weight had always been in the public eye for years and no matter how much she dieted, she always gravitated back to a certain weight.

Winfrey on being overweight

“This is a world that has shamed people for being overweight forever,” she said.

She also said that salespeople would often usher her towards accessories like handbags and gloves because they didn’t have clothing in her size when she was at her biggest. Winfrey said that there was so much condescension.

The topic of weight loss medication was also discussed at length most notably the Ozempic drug and its effects. Ozempic is a diabetic medicine that has become popularly used for weight loss. It works in the brain to impact satiety and has become a popular trend among Hollywood starlets to induce quick and easy weight loss.

Winfrey said she was conflicted about using it because of societal pressures and body image.

“Shouldn’t we all just be more accepting of whatever body you choose to be in? That should be your choice,” said Oprah.

She also spoke about her knee surgery saying how reluctant she was to use medication as it seemed like an easy way out for weight loss.
