Jada Pinkett Smith says she has been separated from Will Smith since 2016. On October 11 in an interview with People magazine, she said her husband and her are “still figuring it out”. She also told NBC that they are in fact not together as a couple anymore.
Jada Pinkett who is currently promoting her memoir titled Worthy said that they have been living separate lives since 2016. However, in an interview with Hoda Kotb in Baltimore, she did admit to not being able to bring herself to go through an actual divorce. “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce and I haven’t been able to break that promise.”

Speaking about what caused the ‘fracture’ in their marriage she said it was ‘a lot of things’.
She had previously denied any rift in their marriage and this is the first time she is openly admitting it. When asked why she kept it a secret for so long she said that it was just tied to not being ready yet as they had no idea on how they wanted to present themselves to people with regard to their relationship.
Jada Pinkett said that part of the problem was that she had made a promise to herself that there will never be a reason for a divorce and that somehow she hasn’t been able to get past that despite a breakdown in their relationship.
In another interview she told People magazine, “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
Despite their seven year separation the couple continue to attend red carpet events together.
