Rachel Bilson has openly discussed her experiences with pregnancy loss in recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. On her “Broad Ideas” podcast, the 42-year-old actress disclosed that she went through several miscarriages before giving birth to her daughter in 2014. These miscarriages occurred in the early stages. On the Monday episode of the podcast, she shared that she had losses and they happened early on.
During a conversation with author Libby Weintraub, who wrote a book titled “She Was Born: Words on Loss and Liberation,” which details her own traumatic stillbirth experience, Bilson emphasized the importance of being flexible during the childbirth process. Bilson said that when it comes to the birthing process it is essential for pregnant women to sometimes ‘pivot’. It is one of the greatest things she speaks about when it comes to having babies and pregnancy.
Adaptable to anything
Bilson talked about her approach to pregnancy and childbirth, expressing her willingness to be adaptable. She mentioned being open to various options during childbirth, even though her preference was to try without an epidural. She also acknowledged the need to let go of control during the planning phase. She finds it safer to go to the hospital but she is open for anything.
Bilson started her podcast last year, often addressing sensitive subjects like infertility, postpartum depression, and female desire. She is the mother of an 8-year-old daughter named Briar Rose with her former partner, Hayden Christensen, despite their separation three years after their nearly 10-year relationship.
Daughter as top priority
Despite her dedication as a mother, Bilson has previously discussed the challenges of dating as a single parent, emphasizing the importance of a partner showing genuine interest in her daughter. She regards her daughter as her top priority and isn’t willing to tolerate anyone who doesn’t share that interest.
