Never his lawyer, says Trump of Sidney Powell

Former President Donald Trump denies that Sidney Powell was ever in his legal team and that she was never his lawyer.

Despite his past association with Powell, who fervently supported baseless election fraud conspiracies, Trump now vehemently denies her as his legal representative.

Embraced then denied?

Last week, Sidney Powell pleaded guilty in the Fulton County, Georgia, election subversion case, sending shockwaves through the political landscape. In response, Trump took to social media to proclaim that she was never his lawyer, and, in a perplexing move, continued to reiterate false claims about the 2020 election.

“Despite the Fake News reports to the contrary, and without even reaching out to ask the Trump Campaign, MS. POWELL WAS NOT MY ATTORNEY, AND NEVER WAS,” Trump boldly declared on social media.

Facts contradict Trump’s assertion

Powell briefly served as an attorney for the 2020 presidential campaign of Donald Trump.

In a November 2020 post on a platform, Trump announced her as a new addition to his legal team.

In that tweet, Trump praised Powell, alongside Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, and two others, as part of a “truly great team” that was added to their existing legal team and representatives.

In another instance, the former president commended Powell for her legal representation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn in 2019, which occurred in the aftermath of the special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the 2016 presidential election.

‘Wonderful’ lawyer no more

This statement stands in stark contrast to a November 2020 announcement from Trump, in which he officially named Powell as a member of his legal team. On November 14, 2020, he enthusiastically tweeted that Powell had been “added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives.”

Powell, who has admitted to six misdemeanor charges in the Georgia election case for her efforts to overturn Trump’s loss in the state, is now bound by an agreement that compels her to “testify truthfully about any co-defendants” involved in the case, as dictated by the presiding judge. Trump, who is also a co-defendant in the same case, has steadfastly maintained his ‘not-guilty’ plea.

This sudden discord between Trump and Powell adds an intriguing twist to an already tumultuous legal saga, leaving the nation eager to see how it unfolds.
