California Healthline states that California’s homelessness crisis primarily arises from a shortage of affordable housing and shelter, leading to worsening living conditions on the streets that trigger behavioural health issues, according to a comprehensive study by the University of California.
Furthermore, over 90% of homeless adults in the state became homeless while living in California due to the severe housing shortage. With an estimated 172,000 homeless people in California, the study emphasises the urgent need for policy changes to address the crisis effectively.
