According to his friend Athenna Crosby, who was among the last people to see the actor alive, Perry had a strong desire to create a movie about his life, and he envisioned his “17 Again” co-star, Zac Efron, playing the role of a younger version of himself. Crosby, aged 25, shared in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” that Perry was eager to share more about his personal story, including his journey to recovery from addiction, and he was enthusiastic about advocating for this cause to assist others.

Crosby further described Matthew Perry as enthusiastic about the project and was genuinely looking forward to the future before his untimely death at the age of 54 due to an apparent drowning at his Los Angeles residence. She mentioned that she had a meal with the actor at Hotel Bel-Air just over 24 hours before he passed away and that during their hour-long lunch, they discussed his upcoming projects. She emphasized that Perry was in high spirits, displaying his well-known humor and excitement for the resurgence of interest in his career. Crosby clarified that she and Perry were friends and nothing more.
Although she hadn’t initially planned to speak about her friendship with Perry, Crosby decided to come forward after a photo of their dining together was published by TMZ. She expressed her devastation over his death but wanted to focus on his legacy and clear any misconceptions about their relationship, as Perry had always valued his privacy. She urged fans to refrain from speculating about his death and emphasized that he was on a comeback.
Exact cause of death unknown
Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in his jacuzzi by his assistant and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Despite the presence of prescription medications like antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs at the scene, no illegal substances, fentanyl, or meth were discovered. The precise cause of his death has yet to be revealed.
