Biden, turkey, MACY's

President Joe Biden spoke about California Governor Gavin Newsom on November 16 at the Asian Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) summit. He said that Newsom could have any jobs he wants – even the presidency.

Speaking at the welcome reception Biden thanked Newsom and said he wanted to speak about the Governor. Incidentally Newsom is a San Francisco local which is also where the summit took place.

“I want to talk about Gov. Newsom. Want to thank him. He’s been one hell of a governor, man. Matter of fact, he could be anything he wants. He could have the job I’m looking for,” said Biden.

Newsom has in the past said that he has no plans to run against Biden in the United States 2024 presidential election.

Newsom the attack dog

However Biden’s failure to mention his Vice President did not go unnoticed. Political analyst for CBS13 Gary Dietrich said, “Gavin Newsom’s been a great attack dog for the Biden-Harris folks already. Apparently, that’ll continue into 2024. He already dissed the former President as part of this, but I mean, your VP ran for this office herself, and presumably would still like it. It’s quite a conundrum,” said Dietrich.

According to a Yahoo poll, 54% of Democrats say they want another Democrat to challenge Biden in the next election and 28% say that they don’t want a new candidate for the 2024 nomination.

The main reason for the reluctance to support Biden and wanting another Democrat challenger has been cited by most Democrat supporters is the fact that Biden will be turning 81 this month and there is concern that he may be told old to run for a second term.

Currently Biden’s only Democratic contenders are long shot challenges from Marianne Williamson and Rep. Dean Phillips.

Meanwhile, Newsom is set to debate his Florida Republican counterpart Ron DeSantis later this month.
