Amazon has launched a new AI Ready programme which is targeting training at least two million people by 2025.
The Wall Street Journal says that the programe is meant to compete with Microsoft and Google who also have their own AI tools.
Anyone can access the training and there are eight free courses on AWS Skill builder and one on AWS Educate. The course covers basic AI skills as well as more advanced concepts.
Demand for AI skills increasing
With demand for AI skills increasing in the workforce, Amazon plans to grow its talent pool in this segment. Tech companies are also jumping on the bandwagon to train workers in new technologies such as generative AI.
The courses are available through Amazon’s learning website. Topics include generative AI technology and the powers of ChatGPT as well as other language models.
Three courses are for business and nontechnical users and five are meant for developer and technical audiences.
Amazon is also launching Udacity scholarships worth more than $12 million to 50,000 high school and university students from underprivileged communities globally.
AWS VP of data and AI, Swami Sivasubramaniam said, “The goal of AI Ready is to help level the playing field of AI education, supported by the new initiatives we’re launching here today. If we are going to unlock the full potential of AI to tackle the world’s most challenging problems, we need to make AI education accessible to anyone with a desire to learn.”
According to data, 73% of employers say hiring AI-skilled talent is a priority, but three out of four people are not able to find qualified people.
Amazon said that it would also help AWS (Amazon Web Service) customers as several courses are based on its own platforms including Amazon Bedrock AI and Amazon CodeWhisperer which is a tool that automatically generates code.
