Honda recalled some 250,000 cars in the United States due to manufacturing defects.

The recall is for Acura TLX models from 2015 to 2020, Acura MDX SUVs made between 2016 and 2020 and 2019 Ridgeline pick-up trucks.

Honda is also recalling Odyssey minivans from 2018 to 2019 and Pilot SUVs from 2016, 2018 and 2019. The company said that the manufacturing error could result in the rod bearing in the engines to prematurely wear and seize.

On November 17, Honda issued a statement to say, “If the connecting rod bearing seizes, the engine can be damaged and run improperly, stall, stop while driving, and/or not start, increasing the risk of a fire, crash or injury.”

Signs include abnormal engine noise, engine stalling or a decreased engine output. Honda received its first complaint in February 2020. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that there were 1,450 warranty claims but no personal injury accidents or deaths reported.

Honda will notify all owners of these models by January 2 and car dealers will inspect and if needed, replace the engine. Honda will also reimburse owners who paid for the repairs on their own.

In addition to Honda, BMW also recalled 155,627 cars due to camshaft timing bolt issues. According to NHTSA  the aluminum bolts on the vehicle that seal the housing for the variable camshaft timing adjustment (VANOS) may gradually loosen over time. If the VANOS that hold bolts loosen, it can increase the risk of injury and crash because the engine may stall.

Meanwhile, Subaru is recalling 95,830 of its 2021 Crosstrek, 2022 Forester, 2021-2023 Legacy, and Outback vehicles because of rearview image problems.

According to a Reuters report on November 20, US auto safety regulators are looking into 16 recalls which were issued by Hyundai and Kia in relation to 6.4 million vehicles for brake fluid leaks. Brake fluid leaks can result in fires.

The Korean automakers have issue a string of recalls since 2016 mainly for its antilock braking system and hydraulic electronic control unit issues.
