Former VP Mike Pence: “Trump walking away, not keeping faith with Constitution”

Not just insurrection. Not just about harsh rhetoric. And not just about Trump’s vengeful declarations of retaliation. Former VP Mike Pence stated on Sunday that his choice not to endorse former President Donald Trump extends beyond the events of January 6, 2021.

Former VP not endorsing former President

“I mean, the reason that I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump this year also has to do with the fact that he is walking away, not just from keeping faith with the Constitution on that day, but also a commitment to fiscal responsibility, a commitment of the sanctity of life, a commitment to American leadership in the world,” the former VP continued.

Pence further admitted that he and the former president had differences that run deep. “Many believe it’s solely about Jan. 6. And truth be told, the president’s insistence that I had the authority to overturn the election that day marks a fundamental divergence,” he remarked.

“Yet, I want to emphasize that I’ve forgiven the president in my heart for the events of that day. As a Christian, it’s a duty I uphold. I’ve offered prayers in that vein,” he shared.

“However, fidelity to the Constitution isn’t a trivial matter, but it doesn’t stop there,” Pence continued.

The former VP cited Trump’s recent about-face — from TikTok policies to his stance on China, where the administration reshaped national consensus. “These shifts led me, after much contemplation, to the firm conclusion that I cannot stand behind the agenda Donald Trump brings to this national discourse,” Pence concluded.

Further, Pence hinted at the national debt, which grew significantly during Trump’s time in office, as well as abortion rights.

However, the biggest clincher of his decision not to endorse Donald Trump stems from his observation of the former president’s departure from the traditional conservative principles that have long defined the Republican Party.
