American rapper Fatman Scoop, 53,died after collapsing at a concert on Aug 30 in Connecticut. He was performing at the Town Center Park in Hamden when he passed out on stage and was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance.
Known for his hip-hop music, Scoop, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, worked with many big names, including Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott and Jermaine Dupri. Some of the popular songs he featured in include Lose Control by Missy Elliot, and It’s Like That by Mariah Carey.
He also had a sleeper hit titled Be Faithful, which was first released in 1999 and became a global success in 2003.
His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, announced the news of his death, saying, “I am honestly lost for words… You took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet, the things you taught me have truly made me the man I am today. Thank you so much, I love you x.”
A spokesperson from his agency said that he would be remembered by fans all over the world.
“His iconic voice, infectious energy and great personality made an indelible mark on the industry.”
His family paid him tribute on social media, saying that he was “a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life”.
”FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage,” said his family.
Scoop was scheduled to perform at the UK Reminisce Festival on September 7. The festival organizers posted on Instagram saying that the news of his death was devastating.
“He was not just one of our most popular performers, he was a cherished member of the Reminisce family. His energy, talent and infectious spirit will be missed more than words can express.”
