India and China are signalling a thaw in relations, with both sides expressing a keenness to move forward following recent diplomatic talks, reports the South China Morning Post.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has announced that 75% of India’s “disengagement problems” with China have been resolved. He also emphasized India’s openness to economic engagement with China.

China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that both militaries had achieved “disengagement in four areas in the Western sector of the China-India border, including the Galwan Valley”.

Analysts say that resuming economic ties is an immediate priority for China.

India is reportedly considering easing restrictions on Chinese investments in non-sensitive sectors and reducing visa delays for Chinese technicians.

However, some analysts say that India needs to do more to attract Chinese investment, such as initiating visa reforms and joint ventures.

A meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at next month’s Brics summit is expected to improve relations further.
