Many people expected Beyonce to make a surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention which took place last week. However, the DNC came and went without Queen Bey (as Beyonce is fondly called) and now it appears that the whole Beyonce performing at the DNC rumour was to increase ratings and boost Kamala Harris’ convention speech.
Her speech apparently had a viewership of 29 million people.
Beyoncé’s publicist Yvette Noel Schure posted a photograph of the DNC on Instagram on Aug 22 with the caption; “Do not report rumors.”
Welp looks like the joke is on everyone who watched the entire #DNC waiting on #Beyonce . Her publicist confirmed moments ago, that Queen B is NOT nor was she ever going to perform ahead of #KamalaHarris speech tonight. #TMZ confirmed the news earlier that she was performing. pic.twitter.com/GhNYFwh0Wh

The whole Beyonce thing started when TMZ reported false news just before Harris’ speech that the singing diva was set to take the stage. Harris also uses Beyoncé’s song Freedom as her official campaign song and she ended her speech on Thursday night with the same song.
The Freedom song is from Beyoncé’s sixth album titled Lemonade and is a collaboration with rapper Kendrick Lamar.
There was more reason to believe that Beyonce was definitely coming when Biden White House political director Emmy Ruiz tweeted a single emoji of a bee. However, Ruiz later clarified that it was because her kid had gotten hold of her phone.
She tweeted on X, “Sorry guys, my 6 year old took my phone.”
Former Trump White House communications director and Dancing with the Stars alum Sean Spicer then posted on X that ‘”the Beyonce rumour was just a Harris ploy to inflate ratings.”
Other tweets also reflected the same thought, but left-leaning people praised Democrats for their tactic.
One individual wrote, “So they let the Beyonce rumor of her performing at the DNC rock to attract more viewers. Can’t say I’m mad at the tactic.”
Another wrote, “Hats off to the genius who planted the rumor about a surprise performance by Beyonce or Taylor Swift at the DNC. Instead viewers were treated to the best speech they’ll probably ever see and no doubt it changed a lot of people’s minds.
Utah Senator Mitt Romney posted on X, “Contrary to fake news posts, I am not the surprise guest at the DNC tonight. My guess is that it will be Beyonce or Taylor Swift. So disappointing. I know!”
CNN ‘News Night With Abby Philip’ anchor Abby Philip said that TMZ had lost a lot of credibility because of the erroneous report.
TMZ later addressed the issue on X writing, “To quote the great Beyonce: We gotta lay our cards down, down, down … we got this one wrong.” The words were lyrics from Beyoncé’s song ‘Texas Hold Em’.
